NOTES: Thomas’ father John King was a Groom/Chauffeur and had died when Thomas was only eleven years old. Thomas and his brothers and sisters were brought up by their mother Mary, and when war broke out Thomas joined the Army in the 3rd Anti-Aircraft Regiment. Gunner King, aged 28, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 29 May 1941. Thomas had two brothers who also served in the Military. James George King served in the RAAF, and Ian Inglis King who served in the Army and who became a prisoner of war. Both brothers returned to Australia at wars end.
