NOTES: Roy joined the Militia on 9 Apr 1934 and served for 3 years in the 38th Infantry Battalion. He then enlisted in the Army for overseas service on 10 Jun 1940 and just 12 days later married Elizabeth HILL. As part of A Coy, 2/22 Battalion, Roy embarked on the ship “Katoomba” for Rabaul, New Britain disembarking there on 26 Apr 1941. When the Japanese invaded New Britain on 23 Jan 1942 he was captured on the North Coast and became a Prisoner of War. He died on board the “Montevideo Maru” when it was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of the Philippines on 01 Jul 1942, en route from Rabaul to Hainan.
