Notes: Helen was aged 21 when she enlisted in the AWAS, serving in the Catering Corps. She had always been very fond of cooking and whilst at the Geelong & Western District Protestant Orphanage, she was in charge of the kitchen for a short period. During her six years with Mrs Leigh of Ceres, she assisted with all meals and catering. Her family honoured her in her obituary with: “Forever in our hearts Mum, your courage, strength, love, kindness, honesty and wisdom you shared with us, has given us the inspiration we need to continue our journey throughout life without you by our side.”
