NOTES: 27 Air Stores Park was formed on 1 Mar 1944 at Kiriwina Island, the unit’s mission was to support 73 Wing’s operations. They were re-located to Hyane Harbour arriving mid Mar 1944. The camp site was in a coconut plantation which had been virtually destroyed by previous Allied bombing and shelling. The first nights were spent in the open on stretchers among the fallen trees. The site was cleared and construction began, the mess building was completed and first meals served 9 April. Advice was received that all future construction was to cease and on 17 May the move to Noemfoor was confirmed. The unit arrived at Noemfoor 24 August. Units of the RAAF (1921-1996)
