NOTES: Allen lived at Bleak House homestead in Birregurra where his father was the station manager.  At the age of 21, Allen enlisted in the RAAF and served overseas in the Royal Air Force (RAF).  He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for “Skill & fortitude in operations against the enemy” which was printed in the London Gazette on 13 Oct 1944.  After the war Allen married Kathleen and they raised their family on their farm in Warncoort and named it Maberly, which was his mother’s maiden name.
