Cressy Beginnings
The area of Cressy was discovered in about 1836 when George Russell reported that there was some fine inland country of treeless windswept plains with a few lakes.
The Cressy & District History Group seeks to document, preserve and promote the history of Cressy and surrounding districts by the acquisition and preservation of information and records and to provide access to them. Extensive historical records, including photos & newspaper cuttings, from community groups, sporting groups, 1944 & 1977 fires, railway history, RAAF Base, Churches and the Cressy School are available for viewing & research.
There are a range of display boards available for browsing and in the files there are many photos collated and documented.
RAAF Base
Between 1939 & 1946 the Royal Australian Air Force operated a combat training aerodrome at Cressy.
